About ILS Yorkshire

ILS Yorkshire provides independent, practical support for people representing themselves in Family Court. Based in Beverley, East Yorkshire, the service helps individuals prepare for hearings, organise paperwork and approach court proceedings with greater confidence.

Founded by Jon Turnbull, ILS Yorkshire offers a personal, straightforward approach to McKenzie Friend support. The aim is to help you feel informed, organised and prepared, while ensuring you remain in control of your case and the decisions you make.

About Jon Turnbull

My name is Jon Turnbull, and I founded ILS Yorkshire to provide practical, independent support for people representing themselves in Family Court.

My professional background is in project and delivery management, where organisation, preparation, communication and attention to detail have been central to my work. I also have personal experience of representing myself in Family Court, which gave me a first-hand understanding of the challenges involved in preparing documents, managing information and getting ready for hearings.

That combination of professional skills and personal experience led me to establish ILS Yorkshire. My aim is to provide straightforward, individual support that helps people feel better prepared and more confident throughout the process.

How I Work

My approach is personal, practical and straightforward. I take time to understand your circumstances and provide support tailored to your needs, whether that’s organising documents, preparing for hearings or keeping track of important information and deadlines.

I believe in clear communication, careful preparation and treating everyone with respect. You remain responsible for your case and the decisions you make; my role is to provide independent practical assistance, not legal advice or representation.

What is a McKenzie Friend?

ILS Yorkshire provides support in the role of a McKenzie Friend, offering practical assistance to people representing themselves in court. To understand what a McKenzie Friend can and cannot do, read our guide to the role.

For a fuller explanation of the role, the support available and its limitations, read my guide: What Is a McKenzie Friend?

Important Information

ILS Yorkshire provides independent practical assistance as a McKenzie Friend service, not legal advice or regulated legal representation. A McKenzie Friend does not automatically have the right to speak on someone’s behalf in court or conduct litigation. The court determines what assistance is permitted.

If you need legal advice or representation, you should consult a suitably qualified legal professional.
